Sidebar Search Plugins and NeedleSearch

Sidebar Search Plugins and NeedleSearch [Updated December 25, 2002]

Sidebar Search Plugins (Mycroft Plugins)

Did you know that you can search your favorite search engine from Mozilla's Sidebar? In order to search your favorite search engine, you need to first download a plugin for it. A wide selection of search plugins is available from the Mycroft project at Mozdev.org.

NeedleSearch: Make a plugin for any search engine instantly
Previously, making search plugins was a rather tedious and time consuming task. An innovative project called NeedleSearch has produced a search toolbar that can auto-configure itself for any search engine, without your having to know how to write a search engine plugin. The way it works is that you first tell NeedleSearch that you want to add a new search engine, then visit the search engine of your choice, and finally search for the word "NeedleSearch", without the quotes. It will then create a plugin for that search engine, enabling you to use the NeedleSearch toolbar to quickly search that engine in the future. Do check out this really cool project!

Search multiple search engines simultaneously
Also, did you know that you can search multiple search engines simultaneously, and have Mozilla display the collated results immediately? . You can use the same search plugins mentioned above to search more than one simultaneously. You just have to switch to advances search mode: Edit | Preferences | Internet Search | Sidebar Search Tab Preference | Advanced .
