Hi Bret,
thanks for the good tip. I did not know about Hot Popper.
I guess Hot Popper would work to check Hotmail - but to send email you'd still need a valid SMTP server, right?

You seem to think that Mozilla mail can't be used with Hotmail... That's not actually the case. There are programs that will provide a POP interface to Hotmail, such as Hotmail Popper: http://www.boolean.ca/hotpop/
If you install that, then you can just use GPG in Mozilla and not even think about Hotmail (though if you use the web interface you'll still have to go through these exercises...)
